Yap Sandiego Ancestral House

This is perhaps one of the best kept secrets and impressive historical attractions in Cebu City. The place is only a few steps from the Parian Monument which is in itself a beautiful masterpiece created by one of the great national artists in the Philippines.

The moment you enter inside the well-preserved house with stoned-wall ground floor, wooden stairs, and wood-paneled second floor full of antiques, you will immediately be transported to a much, much deeper history of Cebu.

Yap Sandiego Ancestral House was built between 1675 and 1700, and was owned by a well-off Chinese merchant named Don Juan Yap. During the 1880s, his oldest daughter, Maria Florido Yap married to the Cabeza de Barangay named Don Mariano San Diego. Thus, we now have the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House.

Years of restoring and preserving this impressive piece of Cebu’s history has given today’s generation an excellent glimpse of a very distant past.
