Basilica Minore del Santo Nino is one of the oldest church in the Philippines. It was founded by Fr. Andres de Urdaneta on April 28, 1565. According to the history, the santo Nino image was a gift by Magellan to Queen Juana during their baptism of King Humabon on April 14, 1521. The church has been managed by Augustinian Priests until today.
In 1735, the governor of Cebu ordered that the church will be constructed in a stone to prevent and preserved the miraculous image of Santo Nino and the church itself. The construction was finished in the year 1739.
