Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral was first recognized as diocese of Cebu on August 14, 1595 and it became the metropolitan archdiocese on April 28, 1934 along with the dioceses of Dumaguete, Maasin, Tagbilaran, and Talibon as suffragans.
The Cathedral construction took some time to finish due to lack of funds and other hindrances or unexpected events. Reasons were the funds for the cathedral were used for the Moro Wars, the death of the incumbent bishop and another factor that had to stop for a while was the vacancies in the office.
During the World War II, the Cathedral was damaged and has been destroyed with the Allied bombings and only the facade and the walls remained standing. In 1950s, the cathedral was rebuilt under the management of architect Jose Ma. Zaragosa. In their 75th anniversary celebration on April 28, 2009, the cathedral has been renovated. - wikipedia
The Cathedral museum is also available located at the right side of the Cathedral. The old house converted into the museum and the entrance fee is around P50.00 per head.
